Bowman v. Kimberly-Clark Corporation

File2023 BCSC 1495
Date2023-08-28
Case nameBowman v. Kimberly-Clark Corporation

What is this class action about?

Slater Vecchio LLP is in the process of investigating a proposed class-action lawsuit against Kimberly-Clark Corporation and Kimberly-Clark Canada Inc on behalf of Canadians who purchased certain lots of Cottonelle Flushable Wipes and Cottonelle GentlePlus Flushable Wipes between February 7, 2020, and October 8, 2020, from retailers such as Amazon, Costco and others.

Kimberly-Clark, manufacturer of popular personal care products, recently announced a recall of its Cottonelle Flushable Wipes, Cottonelle GentlePlus Flushable Wipes, and Cottonelle FreshFeel Flushable Wet Wipes for Adults, among others, over bacterial contamination.

The lawsuit alleges that certain lots of Cottonelle Flushable Wipes and Cottonelle GentlePlus Flushable Wipes were contaminated with Pluralibacter Gergovaie bacteria, which has the potential to cause infections in both healthy individuals and those with compromised immune systems.

This strain of bacteria is an opportunistic pathogen that can cause serious infection in humans. Individuals who have a weakened immune system, suffer from pre-existing conditions, have been treated surgically, or belong to another sensitive group of persons are at particular risk of harm. Cottonelle is recalling all affected products.

Who is affected?

Affected lots of disposable wet wipes have been recalled by Kimberly-Clark and may have been purchased by Canadians at Costco or other locations. If you purchased Cottonelle Flushable Wipes and/or Cottonelle GentlePlus Flushable Wipes after February 7, 2020, you may be affected.

What should I do?

If you think you may have sustained injuries from using these wipes, save the packaging and your receipt.
